Great news! God wants all of us.Just read about it in Isaiah 42:1-13. This is an expanded version of the Angels' message to the sheperds (Luke 2:8-20). Our saviour Jesus is traced through his parents back to Abraham in Matthew (ch 1) and in Luke (ch 3) back to God. The idea is in the way Luke takes the list back to God, reminding us we are all children of God. Matthew is hinting at the same idea when he includes Rahab, the woman of Jericho and Ruth the Moabite woman as part of Jesus' ancestry. These are not Jewish women, they are from the neighboring nations. Because God had recognized them for their faith; the rest of the outside world is about to be let in on the full story of God's love.In Isaiah 56 the first 8 verses that promise is clearly set out. Just read it and then memorize 56:8." The Almighty Lord, who gathers the scattered people of Israel, declares,"I will gather still others besides those I have already gathered." We are those others!
Scene one-the Christmas story.Lets read the story from Luke 2:1-20--With all the newer easier translations, this could become a family event to remember,with everyone reading. It might be a great time to start the little ones in your family on the path to regular bible reading. Christmas is just for children - for the hope that we will become children of God.

Thank God and thank someone else today. Read Luke 17:12-19. Every day we have
plenty of thoughtful helpful people who help to get us through the day. Just like God
appreciates our thanks they will too.
In the Lord's prayer it says we should forgive others as God has forgiven us. It really
helps to be humbled by the knowledge of how much God forgives us. Try to picture the person you don't want to forgive as the one who greets you at the pearly gates,
saying "Glad you made it" Did I hear an "Ouch?"
There is one shining example of a humble thankful man in the old testament-king
David. He wrote an entire book of the bible full of praise and heartfelt conversations with God. It's his open diary of his relationship with God. Read Psalm 18 an entire chapter of praise to God for his loving care.
I started out with thankfullness. Now let me show you what a humble man David was.
When Saul was chasing him he twice refused to harm "God's anointed king."
Read 1 Samuel 24 and 26. He was recognizing it would be God who made him king,
not his own hand. Also when a man who felt bitter cursed and threw stones at him,

What happens when troubles come your way? Do you find it hard to trust God for the answers? Sometimes we, His people, turn our backs on his word and go our own way. Even when Moses led the Israelites through the Red Sea and delivered food from nowhere; they doubted God could be trusted to deal with life's troubles and annoyances. Then in Judges some of the most depraved stories in the Bible are found.Judges 17:6 "In those days there was no king in Israel. People did whatever they felt like doing." It's sad to see how quickly and how far God's chosen people fall. Judges shows the junkyard condition of people without God.These people were not reading God's instructions of what to do. God made us; and we've got to go to His repair manual, every time someone saved the Israelites in Judges, it was someone who had talked to God. We need to talk to the head mechanic.

News Flash!!God loves you-just you very,very much."Greater Love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13. Christianity is a relationship - not a membership! In the old testament God had already written us a letter; but now in the new testament - he has come down for a visit - Jesus - the word made flesh.He loved us so much that he died for, and because of, our sins. This is the beginning of the new covenant mentioned in Hebrews 8:10. Please look that up and read it. I'm going to assume you already know John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he sent his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth on him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." That long word whosoever means you are one of those Christ died for. He didn't leave anybody out! As soon as you believe how much God loves you, you will begin to change to please him.It is your heart that changes;your actions will take a while.Read Matthew 16:15-18: "And I say also unto thee,That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." We all know that Peter nearly drowned when he tried to walk on water, and he denied Christ 3 times; but Jesus saw his belief and knew his heart was on the mend. Is yours? Try reading Hebrews. The word ecumenical isn't in the bible, but the idea is. Just read about what Jesus
had to say in Mark 9:38 & 39. I think the more people believe in Jesus the more
different ideas we're going to have about what is the right way to get to heaven. In
Colossians 3:1-17, Paul tackled the issue of getting along as Christians even though
we don't see eye to eye. Here is your memory verse from that scripture "Put up with
each other. Forgive the things you re holding against one another. Forgive, just as the
Lord forgave you." Colossians 3:13 New International Readers Version.
I like the extra punch of the "Put up with each other!" We need to remember to be kind to
one another and very very patient. In 1 Corinthians 8 Paul takes a whole chapter to
help deal with the issue of eating food that has been offered to idols. That's not a
problem we have in the church today, but look at how kind and understanding we are
asked to be. God's word as always puts it best, "God alone, who gave the law, is the
Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy.So what right do you have to
judge your neighbor?" James 4:12 New Living Translation. That would make a good
memory verse too. If you disagree with a fellow Christian's belief, read and research
your bible. Make certain of your own belief; and then leave the rest to God.Check more

Our God
Who owns God? Now that's a rediculous question! No one can own him.Just
the same, we are many different religions, and many different denominations within each
of them. We all seem to know that God is far beyond our understanding; but we're all sure
we have the real deal!
In the old testament, when it says "our God," it means Israel. God had chosen,
an elderly couple to be the parents of his chosen nation; and indeed he made his descendants like the stars--too many to count. Gen. 15:5 He chose from the descendants
of Abraham to make a nation, led by God in the way they should go. But did they follow
God? Nope. Read Isaiah 43. It speaks of all the blessings that are given to Israel for being
his chosen people.But they demonstrated they were no better at following God than the rest of us.In the Living Bible translation of Isaiah 43:26 "Oh, remind me of this promise of forgiveness, for we must talk about your sins. Plead your case for my forgiving you." God's plan is/was to bless all nations through this one story of man's failure to keep from sin and his constant love.See Micah 4 for God's promise to the rest of us. God chose

In Honor of our Fathers
Well this one is different, as usual. Paul advised Timothy "Let no man despise your youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."1 Timothy 4:12
How do I put that together with honoring our fathers? It's all about love.Ideal fathers are patient and kind while they wait on us to learn to sit and walk and run along side them. They are amazed by us from birth, we have brought a special joy to their lives.They delight in our successes, not just their own. The ideal father is never selfish,rude or haughty; he is never a demanding bully.The ideal father is never irritable or touchy, doesn't hold grudges. He seems to understand I really didn't mean to ...(fill in your worst here) Our ideal father doesn't want us to be unfairly punished, but does seek justice. He believes in us always and hopes we will do our very best. Of course our ideal father is God, and the rest of the world falls far short. Every man when he becomes a father tries his best, but each of us starts with a flawed example--our own fathers. Only God is perfect! In using Paul's advice to Timothy as
our memory verse. I am saying do not despise the youthful mistakes of our fathers as they struggle to become more godlike. Also let us not forget mentors are fathers too as Paul was to Timothy. To become the best father/mentor ever just keep reading your bible. Readings for this month are 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon. See how Paul was a mentor to each of these men. God is full of surprises; I've just thrown out the beginnings of this month's article.
I'm shaking my head and saying "God are you sure? The one complaint I hear from
people starting out on bible reading is those long lists of names. Who can get through them?!"Three times the Israelites are listed by tribe--just the leaders thankfully. When
they leave Egypt there are 600,000 men, when they get to Mount Sinai they take another
census and there are 600,000 men; 38 years later they take another census before going into the promised land. Guess how many men? Same number. They have been in a desert for forty years,they're living on something called manna(translated what is it), they've had rebellions resulting in many deaths, and yet their numbers have stayed the same. It must have been a God thing.
If you were an Israelite reading those lists, well that was aunt Mary's father or maybe that
name was my great grandfather, and maybe my friend Joe is a descendant of Joash.Try thinking of these guys as your ancestors to make better sense of this part of the book.Now maybe you will understand this memory verse: Isiah 51:1 "Listen to me, you who seek the lord: Look to the rock from which you were hewn, And to the hole of the pit from which you were dug." New King James Version
Some of those ancestors were taken out from the pit of sin and saved by the hand of God. Read Exodus this month. Some of the people rebelled against God, not once but twice. It resulted in the deaths of 38,700 men. It really was a God thing.After you see all the trials those men and women had to go through to get to the promised land maybe you'll appreciate how important those lists are. Making the list was truly an honor!

Well if you've been reading along in the psalms, you kinda know what made David
tick. He was very close to God; very aware of his many blessings and his constant
protection. David almost never stopped being humble in his relationship with God.He
was constantly aware that it took two for his life to succeed--God first and then David.
You see one day David was out minding his father's sheep, while his dad and big
brothers were meeting with Samuel the prophet. He wasn't thought to be important
enough for this event, but Samuel sent for him and anointed David king of Israel! This
was not an easy position to be in--Saul was king. From this point on David had to depend
on God to stay alive! If you start in 1 Samuel 16 and keep going to the end of 2 Samuel
you can read all about David's life. It's quite a story when you realize how much he had to
go through to become the great king he was.
Our memory verse is simple to remember: 2 Samuel 22:2 "The Lord is my rock, my
fortress and my deliverer" to remember the where it's at part just keep thinking it takes
two and then, that it is near the end of David's life, so it's near the end of the book. One other book tells about David's story 1 Chronicles. You may want to check it out for
differences or other stories. It's like the 4 gospels the same story told by other people
is never quite the same.
Just keep reading and learn your memory verse, and I'll see you next month.

Have you heard the one about the boy who left his favorite teddy bear out in the sandbox after dark? His mom sent him out to get it saying, "It's okay Jesus is with you wherever you go." but from the edge of the lighted porch the little boy said "Mom, I really want
somebody with skin on, please!"
The Bible is full of verses that tell us God will wipe away all our tears. Isaiah 25:8 and Revelations 7:17. Psalm 126:5 says "Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy."
I wrote this next bit at the end of January, as I began to be overcome by the sheer number
of families who were grieving among us.
Praise God my father, who comforts me! I am broken and forlorn; but I know I can
climb up onto my heavenly father's lap and be comforted. He is here for me to wipe
away all my tears, to turn my mourning into joy. I truly believe this is a fact; but each and everyone of us would rather have "someone with skin on."
The young Jesus when found in the temple by his parents said that he must be about His father's business.Read the whole story in Luke 2:41-49. As children of God we must be
about our father's business too.Acording to Paul in his letters that includes comforting one another. Read 1 Thessalonians and 1 Corinthians.

Who's your Daddy?
Hasn't anyone told you--you're adopted? This really is good news! Just look at your memory verse for this month: Galatians 4:4 & 5."But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons." (RSV) Look it up; and if you read on from there you'll see that our adoption is so secure we get to call God "daddy" right away. That's the meaning of abba.

to get them closer to God. You see Abraham's faith was considered righteousness by God.

I've been fighting this subject as my next article all month long, dragging my feet and finding every excuse in the book. God always wins the war. My heavenly father knows best.
After saying God is our father - and I'm thrilled with that idea; I find I must add - God disciplines us. Why?!? because he loves us! Your memory verses say just that.
"My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in." Proverbs 3:11 & 12
Discipline is a controversial topic. There are many different ideas about how strict or lenient one should be. Discipline has to be done with love. Sometimes the word hot is not enough;so a parent who strikes a small child's hand about to touch a hot stove does so to prevent greater harm. If that same child later,does burn the hand, perhaps he or she will appreciate and understand why the hand was smacked before. We become responsible adults by learning from those who discipline us. That's the learning that leads to self-discipline the beginning of adulthood.
Reading the Psalms check out number 51, this is a prayer of repentance written by David.
His understanding of God's love for him is what we all need to grasp. He was sorry for what he had done because he knew how much God cared for him. David had a very open relationship with God in the Psalms. Sometimes he asks God to go kill off all the wicked people, but if you read on sometimes he realizes he is one of the wicked too. We have met the enemy and we are them! May God continue to have success disciplining you and me both. Keep reading his word-It helps.

If that same child later,does burn the hand, perhaps he or she will appreciate and understand why the hand was smacked before. We become responsible adults by learning from those who discipline us. That's the learning that leads to self-discipline the beginning of adulthood.
Reading the Psalms check out number 51, this is a prayer of repentance written by David.
His understanding of God's love for him is what we all need to grasp. He was sorry for what he had done because he knew how much God cared for him. David had a very open relationship with God in the Psalms. Sometimes he asks God to go kill off all the wicked people, but if you read on sometimes he realizes he is one of the wicked too.
